It is estimated that more than 16 million people went to the cinemas on February and ticket sales reach $116 million dollars. Korean Films were watched by more than 8 million people and had a revenue of $57 million dollars. Foreign Films were also able to sell more than 8 million tickets rising $59 million dollars. Another fact to remark is that the market share was almost the same for both Korean and Foreign films.
Now if we compare these numbers with the ones obtained on February 2014 we can see that the industry had a very significant decrease. The total number of admissions descend 12%, rising $11 million dollars less. The biggest impact was on Korean films where there was a decrease of 18.83% in the number of admissions compared to last year. The Foreign films also decrease in the numbers of admissions by 4.51%.
The Korean Films release this month that gather most viewers were, “Detective K: Secret of the Lost Island”, directed by Kim Suk-yoon, with 3.583.733 admissions (Showbox), “C'est si bon”, directed by Kim Hyun-seok with 1.675.311 admissions (CJ), and “The Strong and Mini Special Forces: The Attack of a New Villain”, directed by Lee Yeong-joon with 151.779 admissions (Independent). On the other hand the most watched Foreign Films were; “Kingsman: The Secret Service” directed by Matthew Vaughn with 3.142.305 admissions (US,UK), “The Imitation Game” directed by Morten Tyldum with 1.131.098 admissions (UK), and “Stand My Me Doraemon” directed by Takashi Yamazaki and Ryuichi Yagi with 444.192 admissions (Japan).
Most watched films
This month the most watched film were Detective K: Secret of the Lost Island, directed by Kim Suk-Yoon with 3.584.733 admissions, capturing 21.48% of the total market. In second place we have Kingsman: The Secret Service directed by Matthew Vaughn with 3.142.305 admissions. In third place, the musical drama directed by Kim Hyun-Seok, C'est Si Bon with 1.675.311 admissions. In fourth, Yoon Je-Kyun´s Ode to My Father with 1.626.857 admissions. Lastly we have the animation movie Big Hero 6 directed by Don Hall and Chris Williams, with 1.285.101 admissions.
