Al Jazeera and Asian Network of Documentary (AND) have announced the list of 10 finalists for the second edition of the Viewfinder Asia Workshop.
Selected filmmakers are invited to attend a week long intensive documentary workshop in Busan, South Korea, from September 30 to October 6, 2013, where they will develop their documentaries for the potential broadcast opportunities on Al Jazeera in 2014. Over 200 proposals were submitted from all over Asia for the ‘Viewfinder Asia’ and 10 filmmakers were finally selected.

‘Viewfinder’ is an international project that selects local film institutions in key regions and discovers local stories and filmmakers in close cooperation with the selected institutions. Al Jazeera, a representative satellite channel in Qatar, started the first project ‘Viewfinder Latin America’ in 2011 and continued with the second project ‘Viewfinder Asia’ in partnership with AND of the Busan International Film Festival.
8 documentaries of the first Viewfinder Asia series, commissioned after the first workshop in partnership with AND, were successfully broadcast on Al Jazeera in 2013. These stories come from China, Taiwan, India, South Korea, Japan, Afghanistan and Thailand. The documentaries are currently available online here Viewfinder Asia.
